I would like to to see the Google Community Fiber project choose Burlington because:

(need help deciding what to write?)

We’ve been getting a ton of questions about what we should be sending to Google, here is a bullet point list to get you started:

  • What will a fiber network and partnership with Google do for our economy? A fiber optic network will provide the infrastructure needed to attract the next generation of high-tech business to Burlington.  This includes, but is not limited to advanced medical imaging and technologies, online gaming companies, movie and music production, dot-com, etc.  This would give us the opportunity to be the tech-hub of the Northeast and a major player in the World’s online economy, not just another spoke.  Jobs in these industries are usually high-paying, and would trickle to every corner of our local economy.
  • How would you grow your existing business? Think about new opportunities, new technologies that you would be able to harness.  10 years ago we were running around with bricks for cell-phones, where will be in 10 years? For some perspective, watch AT&T’s “You Will” ads from 1993.  Think robotics, think virtual-reality, think about what you could do if you never had to wait for an upload or download again.  “Think Big with a Gig”
  • Why would Google want to support our community in this endeavor? Take a moment to familiarize yourself with Google’s 10 point philosophy and their corporate info and you’ll see a company that would fit perfectly in Burlington.  They foster a fun and creative corporate culture. They run organic cafes for their employees. They’re getting involved in renewable energy technologies.  They have fought China recently over human rights abuses and free speech.  Is apparent they’d love Burlington and would have overwhelming support from our community.

If you need help drafting your nomination, reach out on Twitter via the #googleBTV hash tag, or join the Facebook page and ask for input.

Be creative… create a youtube video, write a song, etc. Involve your employees, customers, commuity members, and supporters.

Pete I filled out a nomination form. I think this would be huge for Burlington and our economy. Keep voting everyone, only 1 day left.

I’m definitely going to drop my vote, I’d love to partake in the project. I have absolutely no idea what I’d do with those speeds, but I’m rather certain I’d be buying myself a few TB’s of storage if we ended up getting accepted into the program.
