As a technology buff, it’s been my chagrin that Burlington’s best option thus far for high speed internet has been cable, provided primarily (to my knowledge)by Burlington Telecom, a model of business management (sarcasm). To me they are no different than dealing with Comcast back home in Reading Vermont: slow, unintuitive and if your lucky enough to even get customer support, well, you might as well just use a magic 8 ball, because their representatives have no idea what they are doing. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed reaming their bandwidth and taking advantage of a high speed line that I had been mostly not used to living in a small town of roughly 800, we just recently (about a year ago) received Comcast cable at my house (and boy did it take a long time to actually get them here and it installed). For me, the chance for Burlington and Google to work together is a dream come true. The speeds that are going to be offered, and the service that I expect far exceed those of Burlington Telecom, plus I won’t have to worry about Google going bankrupt. With a student population hovering near 10,000, Burlington seems like a great town to try out this fantastic new technology. So for now you have at least one fervent fan who would make the switch in a heartbeat.
